Kia Autocar Picanto X-Line 2018 review

The Kia Picanto is really a budget city car with prices starting from under £10, 000, but just like every model range, there’s scope to invest a load more in case you venture in the range.
Regardless of the apparently questionable logic of spending a substantial percentage from the price of the basic Picanto 1 to get a GT-Line or GT-Line S version, Kia reports that almost a quarter of buyers choose these top-of-the line models. The rationale, says Kia, is it doesn’t cost such a lot to upgrade when you’re paying monthly on the PCP lease deal.
Together with bigger engines, these versions deploy a far more energetic look with the enlarged alloys, racier bumper designs and red highlights, and also the top GT Line S trim showers you using the kit of the grown-up car.
A wannabe grown-up car is what Kia’s new Picanto X-Line is about, this faux crossover drawing inspiration from Kia’s larger crossovers. It rides 15mm above a typical Picanto, flaunting black plastic wheel arch extensions with short tongues that cut straight into the bodywork – just as a Land Rover’s – along with black sill covers and reworked bumpers that add 75mm to its length.
Additionally wears a distinctive new face, disassembling the Picanto front bumper style count to three, has ‘plastiminium’ skid plates front and rear and lime green décor highlights inside (and outside with certain colours).
Mechanically there aren't any differences aside from the ride height change, the X-Line coming using the larger 1. 25-litre 83bhp four cylinder and also a five-speed gearbox.
Price-wise the £12, 595 X-Line splits the 2 GT-Line models in the high end from the Picanto range, which now features seven trim levels. Which may appear plenty, except this city car contender is Kia UK’s second best-selling model following the Sportage, selling greater than 13, 000 units (and rising) annually.
